Notary Services Offered in Michigan
When a notary certificate calls for an acknowledgment, the signer is admitting that the signature on the document is truly theirs, only if the document is pre-signed.
Otherwise, the signer will sign in the presence of the Notary. The Notary will be a witness to said signature.
This is the ONLY type of notarization that can be pre-signed.
When a notary certificate calls for a verification on oath or affirmation (Jurat), two things MUST happen. First, the signer MUST give an oath, swearing that the contents or statements within the document are true and correct. Secondly, they MUST sign and date said document in the presence of a Notary.
The Notary will be a witness to said signature and date. There can be NO past signatures, if there are, then the Notary CANNOT notarize.
Usually documents that will be used in a trial as evidence or other official proceedings need a Jurat.
Notaries can administer an oath or affirmation without signatures.
When a notary certificate calls for a signature witnessing, it is similar to a Jurat, but without an oath.
This notarization certifies that each signer personally appeared before a Notary on said date, in said county matching the certificate.
The Notary will be a witness to said signature and date. The signing date is of utmost importance.
There can be NO past signatures, if there are, then the Notary CANNOT notarize.

Each ACKNOWLEDGMENT, JURAT, OATH or SIGNATURE WITNESSING IS $10.00.
For example, there is a document that requires two different people to be identified and sign. The certificate requires an acknowledgment for each signer on the one document. That would result in a notarization fee of $20.00.
Another example, there is one document and one identified signer. The certificate requires a Jurat, an oath and a signature. This is one notarization; therefore, the fee will be $10.00.
